📱 Huawei Phone Repair — Brisbane
Huawei Broken or Playing Up?
We Fix Them — and We’ll Be Honest About What That Means.
Huawei phones are more complicated than most when it comes to repair decisions. The Google Services situation, parts availability post-sanctions, and the question of whether a post-ban phone is still worth fixing — these matter. At Mobile Connect, we fix Huawei phones at our two Brisbane stores in Underwood and Sunnybank Hills, and we’ll give you an honest answer before we give you a quote.
The Huawei Google Ban — What It Means for Your Phone and Whether It’s Worth Repairing
Before recommending any Huawei repair, this is the conversation we always have first. In May 2019, US trade restrictions barred Huawei from accessing Google Mobile Services (GMS). Every Huawei phone released after that date — P40, P50, Mate 30, Mate 40, Nova 8, and later models — cannot run Google apps. Here’s what that means in practice.
✅ Pre-Ban Huawei — Full Google Services (Repair Strongly Worth It)
Huawei phones released before May 2019 — P30 Pro, P30, P20 Pro, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 — run full Google Mobile Services. Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Pay, and Google Play Store all work normally. These phones function identically to any other Android device. Repairing a pre-ban Huawei is a straightforward decision — the phone’s utility is complete and uncompromised.
⚠️ Post-Ban Huawei — Huawei Mobile Services Only (Repair Depends on Your Usage)
Huawei phones released after May 2019 — P40, P40 Pro, P50 Pro, Mate 30, Mate 40, Nova 8 — run Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) instead of Google. The Google Play Store, Gmail, Google Maps, and YouTube are not pre-installed and cannot be installed through official channels. Huawei’s own AppGallery is available, and many popular apps are accessible through it — but the experience is materially different for users who depend on Google’s ecosystem.
🚫 What Post-Ban Means for Your Daily Use
Without Google services, post-ban Huawei phones cannot access Google Pay for tap-to-pay, cannot use Google Maps for navigation (HERE WeGo or Petal Maps are alternatives), cannot access YouTube through the standard app, and cannot install apps from Google Play. For users who primarily use banking apps, social media, calls, and camera — the impact may be minimal. For heavy Google ecosystem users, it is significant.
💡 How We Apply This to Your Repair Decision
At Mobile Connect in Brisbane, we’ll ask you one question before recommending a repair on a post-ban Huawei: does the phone still do what you need it to do? If the answer is yes — and many Huawei owners in Brisbane’s south-side communities find that calls, camera, WeChat, and browser-based access to apps is sufficient — then repair is absolutely worth it, especially for high-end models like the P40 Pro whose camera system remains genuinely exceptional. If the answer is no, we’ll tell you honestly before you spend anything.
Signs Your Huawei Phone Needs to Be Repaired
Some Huawei faults are straightforward hardware problems. Others — particularly on Mate and P series phones — can be Kirin chipset behaviour or EMUI/HarmonyOS software quirks. Here’s how to tell the difference.
Cracked or shattered screen
Huawei P and Mate series use OLED displays — the P40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro have curved edge screens that are particularly striking but also particularly fragile at the edges. A cracked screen should be repaired before daily contact with broken glass damages the digitiser or the curved display frame, significantly increasing repair cost.
Phone getting unusually hot
Huawei’s Kirin chipsets — particularly Kirin 990 and 9000 used in Mate 40 and P40 series — are known to run warm during intensive tasks. Consistent warmth during video or gaming is normal. A phone that’s hot to the touch on standby with the screen off is not — this is worth diagnosing to distinguish Kirin thermal behaviour from a degraded battery or software issue.
Battery draining faster than expected
Huawei’s EMUI and HarmonyOS manage background apps aggressively — more so than stock Android. Battery drain that appears suddenly is often a software setting or an app behaving unusually, not a degraded battery. We run a proper battery load test during free diagnosis before recommending a replacement, because a settings adjustment can sometimes solve what looks like a battery problem.
Charging port not connecting properly
Cable falls out, charges only at a specific angle, or doesn’t recognise fast charging. All current Huawei phones use USB-C. Lint compaction is the most common cause — a professional port clean takes five minutes and often resolves the problem without any replacement needed. We check this first before recommending anything.
Camera producing blurry or poor images
Huawei’s Leica-tuned cameras — particularly on the P30 Pro, P40 Pro, and Mate 40 Pro — are among the finest mobile cameras ever produced. When they fail, it’s immediately obvious. Blurry photos autofocus can’t fix, a cracked periscope lens, or a camera app that crashes are repairable hardware faults subject to parts availability.
Lines, patches, or discolouration on screen
Horizontal lines across the OLED display, spreading purple or black patches, or sections of the screen showing incorrect colours — these indicate display panel damage beyond the outer glass. The OLED assembly needs replacing. Curved-edge Huawei displays (P40 Pro, Mate 30 Pro) are more susceptible to this after drops due to the curved glass meeting the frame.
Is Your Huawei Problem EMUI / HarmonyOS — or Actual Hardware? Check These First.
Huawei’s EMUI (older models) and HarmonyOS (newer models) are both more aggressive than stock Android when it comes to background app management and battery optimisation. Many complaints that look like hardware faults are software settings that can be fixed in under two minutes.
Restart Fully First
Hold power and select Restart. EMUI and HarmonyOS accumulate background processes that cause battery drain, display glitches, and unresponsive touch over time. A full restart clears these. If the problem started suddenly without any drop or physical damage, restart first and monitor for 24 hours.
Check Battery Management Settings
Go to Settings → Battery → More Battery Settings. Huawei’s “Performance Mode” can cause excessive heat and drain; “Ultra Power Saving Mode” can make the phone feel broken. Check which mode is active and switch to “Balanced” if neither normal performance nor saving mode is selected. This single change resolves many Huawei battery complaints.
Find the App Draining Your Battery
Go to Settings → Battery → View Usage by App. Huawei’s App Launch manager can sometimes fail to control a runaway process. If a single app is consuming disproportionate battery, tap it, select “Manage Automatically,” and add it to the optimised list. Force-stop the app and monitor drain for 24 hours before concluding the battery itself needs replacing.
Clean the USB-C Port First
Shine a torch into the USB-C port. Lint compaction is the most common cause of Huawei charging complaints. Gently clear it with a toothpick or non-metallic tool before assuming the port is faulty. Also confirm you’re using the original Huawei SuperCharge cable and adapter — third-party cables can slow charging significantly and trigger false fault symptoms.
Run Huawei’s Built-In Phone Manager
Open the Phone Manager app (pre-installed on all Huawei phones). Run “Optimise” to clear cached junk and background processes. Run “Virus Scan” to rule out a malicious app causing drain or performance issues. If you’re on HarmonyOS, also check “App Battery Usage” under Digital Balance — a recently installed app is often the culprit behind sudden battery drain.
Still Not Fixed? WhatsApp Us
Tell us your exact Huawei model and what’s happening. We’ll tell you whether it sounds like a software issue you can fix yourself, a hardware fault worth bringing in, or — for post-ban models — a situation where the phone’s limitations mean repair may not be the best investment. No charge to ask.
⚠️ The Kirin Thermal Caveat — Normal Warmth vs Actual Fault
Huawei Mate 30, Mate 40, P40, and P50 series phones run noticeably warmer than Qualcomm-based competitors — this is a known characteristic of the Kirin 990 and 9000 chipsets, not a defect. Extended camera use, gaming, and video streaming will generate warmth. What’s not normal is a phone that’s hot to the touch on standby with the screen off and no active processes. If that’s happening, bring it in for a free battery and software diagnostic at our Underwood or Sunnybank Hills stores.
Huawei P Series, Mate, Nova, and Y Series — What’s in Each Range and What Repairs Cost
Huawei’s Australian lineup spans from budget Y series phones to genuinely world-class P and Mate flagships. The display technology, repair complexity, and repair value are completely different across these ranges. Here’s the honest breakdown.
P Series — Camera-First Flagship
Huawei’s camera-focused flagship range, co-engineered with Leica. OLED displays on P30 Pro and newer, with periscope zoom lens systems on P30 Pro and P40 Pro that set a new standard for mobile photography. The P30 Pro, P30, and P20 Pro are pre-ban phones with full Google services. The P40 and P50 series are post-ban and run HMS. Repair value is high for all P series — these are exceptional cameras worth preserving.
📱 P20 Pro, P30, P30 Pro (GMS), P40, P40 Pro, P50 Pro (HMS)
Mate Series — Power User Flagship
Huawei’s business-focused flagship — large OLED displays, massive batteries, and premium build. Mate 20 Pro is pre-ban with full GMS and IP68 water resistance. Mate 30 and Mate 40 are post-ban HMS phones. All Mate series phones use OLED displays and are among the most capable Huawei phones to repair — the hardware justifies the cost.
📱 Mate 20 Pro (GMS), Mate 30 Pro, Mate 40 Pro (HMS)
Nova Series — Mid-Range, Mixed Display
Huawei’s mid-range line — popular in Brisbane’s south-side communities for their camera performance and design at accessible price points. Earlier Nova models (Nova 5T, Nova 7i) carry full GMS. Later Nova 8 and Nova 9 models are HMS-only. Display technology varies — check your specific model. Parts availability for Nova series is generally reasonable for models produced between 2018 and 2021.
📱 Nova 5T, Nova 7i (GMS); Nova 8, Nova 9 (HMS)
Y Series — Budget, LCD, Lower Repair Value
Huawei’s entry-level range — LCD displays, basic cameras, affordable price points. Y series phones have a lower resale value than P or Mate series, which affects the repair-vs-replace calculation. A screen repair costing $89 on a phone worth $100 second-hand is a borderline call. We always check current resale value against repair cost during free diagnosis before recommending work on Y series models.
📱 Y6, Y7, Y8s, Y9 (all budget LCD models)
⚠️ Parts Availability Post-Sanctions — The Honest Picture
US trade sanctions severely disrupted Huawei’s supply chain from 2019 onwards. This means replacement parts for Huawei phones — particularly newer models — come from a more limited aftermarket supply than iPhone or Samsung. Parts for P30 series, Mate 20 series, and Nova 5T are generally available. Parts for P40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro, and newer HMS models require confirmation before your visit. WhatsApp us your exact model first — we’ll check current availability and give you an accurate lead time if a part needs to be ordered.
Which Huawei Models Still Have Parts Available in Brisbane?
This table is the most practically useful information on this page. Because Huawei’s supply chain was disrupted by US sanctions, parts availability varies significantly by model. Here’s an honest summary of current availability — accurate as of 2025.

|---|---|---|---|
| Huawei P30 Pro / P30 | ✅ Full GMS | Good | Good |
| Huawei P20 Pro / P20 | ✅ Full GMS | Good | Good |

💡 Always WhatsApp Before Visiting for Huawei Repair
Given Huawei’s complex supply chain situation, we strongly recommend WhatsApping your exact model to Mobile Connect before visiting either our Underwood Marketplace or Sunnybank Hills Shopping Town stores. We’ll confirm stock, give you an accurate timeframe if a part needs to be ordered, and have an honest conversation about whether repair makes sense for your specific model and usage. This takes two minutes and saves you a potentially wasted trip.
Huawei Repairs Available at Our Brisbane Stores
All repairs are done in-store by our technicians — subject to parts availability for your specific model. Here’s what we can fix and what’s involved.
Screen Replacement
From $89Cracked glass, dead touch zones, OLED discolouration, dark patches, or a completely dark display. Huawei P and Mate series use OLED panels; Nova and Y series use LCD. Curved-edge models (P40 Pro, Mate 30 Pro) require extra care during disassembly due to the screen meeting the frame at the curved edges. We always confirm the specific display type for your model before sourcing parts. WhatsApp your model first.
→ See screen repair detailsBattery Replacement
From $79Before replacing any Huawei battery, we run a proper load test — because EMUI and HarmonyOS battery stats can misrepresent actual degradation. If the battery is genuinely degraded, a replacement restores full performance and also allows Huawei’s SuperCharge fast charging to operate at full speed again — a degraded battery can throttle fast-charge rates independently of the port. Most replacements are done in under an hour.
→ See battery replacement detailsCharging Port Repair
From $79All current Huawei phones use USB-C charging. Before recommending a port replacement, we clean the port and verify you’ve tested with the original Huawei SuperCharge charger and cable. Third-party accessories can cause slow charging that’s indistinguishable from a faulty port. If the port itself needs replacing after all these checks, we’ll confirm and give a firm quote before proceeding.
→ See charging port repair detailsCamera Repair
From $89Huawei’s Leica-engineered camera systems — particularly the periscope zoom on P30 Pro and P40 Pro — are among the most sophisticated mobile cameras ever built. When they fail, it’s one of the most impactful faults on daily use. We repair front and rear camera modules and replace cracked camera glass covers. Parts availability varies by model — confirm via WhatsApp before visiting.
→ See camera repair detailsWater Damage Repair
Quote after diagnosisHuawei P30, P40, Mate 20, and Mate 40 Pro carry IP67 or IP68 ratings — but these degrade over time and are completely negated by a cracked screen or previous repair. If your Huawei has been submerged, power it off immediately, do not try to charge it, and bring it to Mobile Connect in Brisbane for a free water damage assessment as quickly as possible.
→ See water damage repair detailsSpeaker & Microphone Repair
From $69Muffled call audio, a front speaker that sounds hollow, or a microphone people complain about on calls. Huawei speaker grilles collect lint and debris over time — a professional clean often resolves audio issues without any part replacement. We run EMUI or HarmonyOS audio diagnostics and diagnose the cause before recommending any hardware work.
→ See all repair servicesIs It Worth Repairing Your Huawei — Given the Google Services Situation?
For every other brand on this page, the repair-vs-replace question is purely about cost vs capability. For Huawei, there’s a third dimension: whether the phone’s utility without Google services meets your actual needs. Here’s how to think through all three factors honestly.
✅ Repair Makes Sense When…
- Your Huawei is a pre-ban model (P30 Pro, P30, Mate 20 Pro) with full Google services
- You have a post-ban model but primarily use WeChat, calls, camera, and browser-based apps
- The phone is a P40 Pro or Mate 40 Pro — the Leica camera system is genuinely irreplaceable at any comparable price point
- The fault is a single fixable issue — screen, battery, or charging port
- Repair cost is clearly less than 50% of the phone’s current resale value
- You’ve adapted to HMS and find AppGallery meets your needs
⚠️ Replacement May Be Better When…
- Your post-ban Huawei’s lack of Google services is already causing daily frustration
- You depend on Google Pay, Google Maps navigation, or YouTube and are working around their absence
- Parts for your specific model are no longer reliably available or require long lead times
- The phone is a Y series or older budget model where repair cost approaches resale value
- Multiple components are failing simultaneously
- There’s significant internal damage from water or a severe drop
💡 The One Huawei Repair That’s Almost Always Worth It
Battery replacement on a Huawei P30 Pro, Mate 20 Pro, or P40 Pro is consistently one of the highest-value repairs we do. These phones carry some of the finest mobile camera systems ever produced, and a dead battery is the single most common reason they get retired prematurely. A $79–$99 battery replacement extends the life of a phone with genuinely exceptional hardware — and for pre-ban models that still run full Google services, there’s no good reason not to.
Will a Third-Party Huawei Repair Void My Warranty?
Huawei’s warranty terms in Australia have been affected by the same trade restrictions that disrupted their supply chain. Here’s what Australian Consumer Law actually says — and what it means practically for Huawei owners in Brisbane.
✅ Australian Consumer Law Protects You
Under Australian Consumer Law, Huawei cannot void your statutory consumer guarantee on unrelated faults simply because you used an independent repairer. This protection applies regardless of what Huawei’s warranty document states. If your Huawei develops a separate fault while under its consumer guarantee period — a speaker failure after a screen replacement, for example — Huawei remains legally obligated to address that separate fault.
⚠️ The Practical Reality for Huawei Warranty Claims
Huawei’s Australian warranty service has been more limited since the sanctions period. Authorised service centres are fewer than for Samsung or Apple, and response times can be longer. For phones clearly past any warranty period, or where a warranty claim isn’t practical, an independent repair at Mobile Connect Brisbane with our own repair warranty is often the more efficient path. We back every repair with a warranty covering both parts and labour.
💡 Our Repair Warranty Fills the Gap
At Mobile Connect in Brisbane, every Huawei repair comes with our own warranty on parts and labour — independent of Huawei’s manufacturer warranty. If the same fault returns within the warranty period, we fix it at no extra cost. For Huawei owners whose manufacturer warranty access is limited by the sanctions situation, this gives you a practical, local warranty backed by a business that’s served Brisbane’s south side for nearly a decade.
From Enquiry to Fixed — What to Expect at Mobile Connect
Huawei repairs need one extra step compared to iPhone or Samsung — the honest Google services conversation and the parts availability check. Here’s exactly what happens.
WhatsApp Your Exact Huawei Model First
Before you visit either our Underwood Marketplace or Sunnybank Hills Shopping Town stores, WhatsApp us your exact Huawei model (e.g., Huawei P30 Pro, Huawei Mate 40 Pro, Huawei Nova 5T) and describe the fault. We’ll check parts availability and — for post-ban models — we’ll ask one key question about your Google services usage before giving you an honest repair recommendation.
Free Diagnosis — Hardware, Software, and the GMS Reality
Our technician checks your Huawei thoroughly — running EMUI or HarmonyOS diagnostics, doing a proper battery load test, and checking the SuperCharge circuit before recommending any hardware repair. For post-ban models, we also confirm that the repair will restore the functionality that matters to you given the HMS environment.
Quick Backup Before We Start
Screen and battery repairs don’t affect your data. But a Huawei Cloud or Google Account backup (for pre-ban models) takes two minutes and ensures everything is safe before we open the phone. Our team will walk you through this if you need help.
Fixed Quote — You Approve Before We Touch Anything
We give you a confirmed, firm price before any work begins. Not an estimate — a fixed quote. If you decide not to proceed for any reason, you pay nothing. No fix, no fee applies unconditionally.
Repaired, Tested — Including SuperCharge Verified
Before handing your Huawei back, we test display quality, touch response across the full screen, camera function, and for charging repairs, confirm that Huawei SuperCharge is activating correctly with the original charger. You leave with a phone that works — not just one that looks repaired.
Why Brisbane Huawei Owners Choose Mobile Connect
Huawei repair requires understanding the Google services situation, the Kirin thermal characteristics, the parts landscape post-sanctions, and the range’s display complexity. Here’s what sets us apart.
Official Telstra Partner Since 2017
Nearly a decade as an authorised Telstra partner. Proper training, quality aftermarket components, and a business that stands behind every repair it does. We’re not a temporary kiosk that disappears when something goes wrong.
Two Convenient South Brisbane Locations
Underwood Marketplace and Sunnybank Hills Shopping Town — both accessible with ample parking. Sunnybank Hills in particular serves Brisbane’s large Chinese-Australian and multicultural communities where Huawei ownership is particularly common.
We Have the GMS Conversation First
Before recommending any repair on a post-ban Huawei, we ask whether the phone’s HMS limitations are working for you. If they’re not — if Google services is a daily frustration — we’ll tell you honestly that a new phone may serve you better. This conversation costs us the repair job. We have it anyway.
Confirm Parts Availability Before You Visit
Huawei parts availability is more complex than iPhone or Samsung due to supply chain disruptions. We check stock for your exact model before you visit and give you an accurate timeframe if parts need to be ordered. No wasted trips.
Our Warranty Fills the Manufacturer Gap
Every Huawei repair at Mobile Connect comes with our own warranty on parts and labour. Given that Huawei’s Australian warranty service is more limited post-sanctions, our repair warranty is the practical protection that replaces it.
Honest About When Not to Repair
For post-ban Huawei phones whose HMS limitations are causing daily problems, for Y series models where repair cost approaches resale value, and for models with severely limited parts — we’ll tell you before you spend anything. Honest advice builds trust that earns customers for life.

Huawei Phone Repair Brisbane — Frequently Asked Questions
The Huawei-specific questions we hear most at our Brisbane stores. If yours isn’t here, WhatsApp us — we reply quickly.
Can Huawei phones still be repaired in Brisbane?
Yes. Huawei phones can still be repaired in Brisbane regardless of the Google services ban or trade sanctions. Screens, batteries, charging ports, cameras, and speakers are all repairable using quality aftermarket parts. Availability is better for P30 series and Mate 20 series than for newer P40 and Mate 40 models.
At Mobile Connect in Underwood and Sunnybank Hills Brisbane, we always confirm parts availability for your specific Huawei model before you visit — WhatsApp us first to confirm stock and avoid a wasted trip.
Why doesn’t my Huawei have Google apps?
Huawei phones produced after May 2019 cannot run Google Mobile Services (GMS) due to US trade restrictions. This affects P40, P50, Mate 30, Mate 40, Nova 8, and later models — they cannot access Google Play Store, Gmail, Google Maps, or YouTube through the standard pre-installed apps.
Pre-ban Huawei phones — P30, P30 Pro, P20 Pro, Mate 20 Pro — still run full Google services normally. If you’re unsure which generation you have, check Settings → About Phone → Build Number for the production date.
Is it worth repairing a Huawei without Google services?
It depends on how you use the phone. If you depend on Google Pay, Google Maps navigation, YouTube, or Google Play Store apps that aren’t available through Huawei AppGallery — a post-ban Huawei’s limitations are already impacting your daily use and repair may not be the right investment.
If you primarily use WeChat, calls, camera, and browser-based apps, or if you’ve successfully adapted to HMS — repair is absolutely worth considering, especially for high-end models like the P40 Pro whose camera system remains genuinely exceptional. At Mobile Connect Brisbane, we’ll have this conversation honestly before recommending any repair.
Why is my Huawei Mate or P series overheating?
Warmth on Huawei Mate 30, Mate 40, P40, and P50 series phones is often caused by the Kirin chipset running background tasks, not a hardware fault. Kirin chips generate more heat than Qualcomm equivalents, particularly during camera processing, app downloads, and gaming.
Check Settings → Battery → App Launch for a runaway background process, and ensure Battery Performance Mode isn’t set to “Performance” unnecessarily. If the phone is hot even on standby with nothing running, a battery degradation test is worthwhile — bring it in for a free diagnostic at either our Underwood or Sunnybank Hills stores.
How much does Huawei screen repair cost in Brisbane?
Huawei screen repair in Brisbane starts from $89 for Y series and Nova LCD models, from $119 for P30 and Mate 20 OLED models, and from $139 for curved P30 Pro models. P40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro screen repairs start from $149 subject to parts availability confirmation.
At Mobile Connect in Underwood and Sunnybank Hills, diagnosis is free and you get a confirmed quote before any work begins. WhatsApp your model first to confirm parts availability for your specific Huawei.
Will repairing my Huawei void my warranty?
Under Australian Consumer Law, Huawei cannot void your statutory consumer guarantee on unrelated faults because you used an independent repairer. Your consumer rights apply regardless of what Huawei’s warranty document states.
Huawei’s Australian warranty service has been more limited since the sanctions period, with fewer authorised service centres than before. For phones clearly past any warranty period, an independent repair at Mobile Connect Brisbane with our own parts-and-labour warranty is typically the most practical option.
Can my Huawei be repaired the same day in Brisbane?
Yes, for popular models with parts in stock. Huawei P30, P30 Pro, Mate 20 Pro, and Nova 5T screen and battery repairs are typically same-day at Mobile Connect Brisbane — usually within 45 to 90 minutes.
For P40, Mate 30 Pro, Mate 40 Pro, and less common Huawei models, we recommend WhatsApping your exact model first to confirm parts availability before visiting our Underwood Marketplace or Sunnybank Hills Shopping Town stores. Some models require parts to be ordered, in which case we’ll give you an accurate timeframe upfront.
Does Huawei repair come with a warranty?
Yes. Every Huawei repair at Mobile Connect comes with a warranty covering both the replacement parts and the workmanship. If the same fault returns within the warranty period, we fix it at no extra charge.
Given that Huawei’s Australian manufacturer warranty service is more limited post-sanctions, our independent repair warranty provides the practical local coverage that manufacturer channels can no longer reliably deliver.

📱 Google Pixel Repair — Brisbane
Pixel Cracked, Dead, or Playing Up?
We Know How to Fix It.
Google Pixel phones are some of the best Android devices on the market — but finding someone in Brisbane who actually knows how to repair them properly is harder than it should be. Mobile Connect fixes Pixel screens, batteries, charging ports, and cameras at our two south-side stores in Underwood and Sunnybank Hills. Free diagnosis. No appointment needed.
Signs Your Google Pixel Needs to Be Repaired
Some Pixel problems are obvious. Others — particularly on the Pixel 6 and 7 series — can be tricky to distinguish from software glitches. Here’s what to look for:
Cracked or shattered screen
Pixel displays are OLED on every model from the Pixel 6 onwards — vivid and bright, but not immune to drops. A cracked OLED panel can develop spreading discolouration and dead touch zones if left unrepaired, turning a straightforward screen job into a more expensive one.
Vertical green line on the display
A solid green vertical line running top to bottom on your screen — without any drop or physical damage. This is the Pixel “green line of death,” a known OLED panel defect affecting Pixel 6 and 7 series. It’s a manufacturing fault, not user damage, and may be covered under warranty or Australian Consumer Law.
Battery draining faster than it should
Pixel batteries degrade like any other — but Pixel 6 and 7 series owners often see faster-than-expected drain due to the Tensor chipset running warm in the background. Before replacing the battery, it’s worth ruling out a software cause. We check this during free diagnosis.
Phone overheating even on standby
Excessive warmth from the Pixel 6, 7, or 8 series isn’t always a hardware fault. Google’s Tensor chip is known to generate more heat than Qualcomm-based equivalents, especially during background tasks. If your Pixel is warm constantly — not just during camera use or gaming — it’s worth a diagnosis before assuming a hardware problem.
USB-C port not charging reliably
Cable won’t stay in, charges only at a specific angle, or stops and starts. All Pixel models use USB-C. Lint compaction is the most common cause — a professional port clean takes five minutes and often fixes the issue completely. We check this first before recommending a replacement.
Camera not performing as expected
The Pixel camera is one of the main reasons people buy these phones. Blurry photos that autofocus can’t fix, a cracked camera glass cover, or a camera app that crashes on launch — these are repairable faults, not reasons to replace the whole phone.
The Pixel “Green Line” — What It Is, Why It Happens, and What to Do
If a solid green vertical line has appeared on your Pixel screen without any drop, impact, or physical damage — you’re not alone, and it’s not your fault. This is one of the most reported Pixel hardware defects in Australia.
The “green line of death” is a spontaneous OLED panel failure that causes a permanent vertical green line to appear across the display. It has been widely reported in Australia and internationally. The defect occurs without any user-caused damage — the phone simply develops the line on its own, often overnight or after a software update.
✅ If Your Pixel Is Under Warranty or Within 2 Years of Purchase
Under Australian Consumer Law, a spontaneous display defect of this kind — appearing without user damage — qualifies as a major failure. You are entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund from Google. Contact Google Support first and reference Australian Consumer Law. If they decline to assist, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and your state fair trading office are the next step.
⚠️ If Your Pixel Is Out of Warranty
If the warranty period has expired and Google has declined to assist, a screen replacement is the only fix. The green line is an OLED panel failure — it cannot be resolved by software update, factory reset, or any other non-hardware fix. At Mobile Connect in Brisbane, we can replace the Pixel OLED panel at our Underwood or Sunnybank Hills stores and have you back up and running the same day for popular models.
💡 Our Advice on the Green Line Issue
Before paying for a screen replacement, always try Google Support first and cite Australian Consumer Law — you may be entitled to a free fix or replacement. If Google declines and the warranty has lapsed, bring your Pixel into Mobile Connect for a free assessment. We’ll confirm the fault, quote you for a screen replacement, and have it sorted the same day if parts are available for your model.
Is Your Pixel Problem Software or Hardware? Check These First.
Google’s Tensor chipset is powerful — but it’s also responsible for more software-mimicking-hardware complaints than any other Android chip on the market. Before spending money on a repair that isn’t needed, run through these checks.
Restart Fully First — Always
A full power-off restart (hold power + volume down → Power off) clears Tensor background processes that cause phantom battery drain, display glitches, and unresponsive touch. If your problem started suddenly without physical damage, restart first and monitor for 24 hours.
Check for a Pending Android Update
Google patches Tensor-related performance and thermal issues via software updates — sometimes fixing problems that look like hardware faults. Go to Settings → System → System update. A pending update is worth installing before assuming a hardware repair is needed.
Identify Battery-Draining Background Apps
Go to Settings → Battery → Battery usage. Sort by consumption. If a specific app is consuming abnormally high battery, it’s almost certainly a software issue — not a degraded battery. Force-stop or uninstall the app and monitor drain for 24 hours before concluding the battery needs replacing.
Check the USB-C Port for Lint First
Shine a torch into the USB-C port. Compacted lint at the base of the port is the most common cause of intermittent charging on all Pixel models. Gently clear it with a toothpick or non-metallic tool. This solves the majority of Pixel charging complaints without any repair needed.
Run Google’s Built-In Diagnostic
Open the Phone app and dial *#*#7287#*#* for a network diagnostic, or use the Pixel Diagnostic app (Settings → About phone → Pixel Diagnostic, available on Pixel 6 and newer). This tests hardware components including display, touch, speakers, and camera without opening the phone.
Still Not Sure? WhatsApp Us
Tell us your Pixel model and exactly what’s happening — we’ll tell you whether it sounds like a software issue you can resolve yourself or a hardware fault worth bringing in for repair. No charge to ask. We’d rather point you in the right direction than take a repair job that wasn’t needed.
⚠️ The Tensor Overheating Caveat
Pixel 6, 7, and 8 series phones run noticeably warmer than equivalent Qualcomm-powered phones — this is a known Tensor chip characteristic, not a defect. Warmth during camera use, video streaming, or navigation is normal. What’s not normal is a phone that’s hot to the touch on standby with the screen off. If that’s happening, bring it in — a degraded battery or a runaway process is the most likely cause, and both are diagnosable for free.
Pixel OLED, LTPO, and Actua — What’s in Your Phone and Why It Matters for Repair
Every Pixel phone from the Pixel 6 onwards uses an OLED display — but not all Pixel OLED panels are the same. The type of display in your model affects both the repair cost and the sourcing time for replacement parts. Here’s what’s in each generation.
Pixel 9 Series — Actua Display
Google’s newest display branding. The standard Pixel 9 uses an Actua OLED panel; the Pixel 9 Pro, Pro XL, and Pro Fold use Super Actua OLED with up to 2,000 nits peak brightness and LTPO variable refresh. These are the newest Pixel displays — parts availability is still building, so WhatsApp us first to confirm stock before your visit.
📱 Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold
Pixel 8 Pro / 7 Pro — LTPO Panels
LTPO (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) is the technology that enables 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate — the display runs at 1Hz when showing a static image (saving battery) and ramps up to 120Hz during scrolling. LTPO panels are more complex to manufacture than standard OLED and harder to source, which is reflected in the repair cost for Pro models.
📱 Pixel 8 Pro, 7 Pro, 6 Pro
Pixel 8 / 7 / 6 — Standard OLED
Standard OLED displays with 60–120Hz fixed refresh. These are the most widely repaired Pixel displays and the ones we most reliably have in stock for same-day service. The screen replacement delivers the same vivid colour and deep blacks as the original — the quality of the replacement panel matters here, and we don’t fit low-grade alternatives.
📱 Pixel 8, 7, 6 (standard models)
Pixel 6a / 7a — Mid-Range OLED
The “a” series uses OLED displays with a 60Hz refresh rate (Pixel 6a) or 90Hz (Pixel 7a). These are more affordable to source than Pro panels, and screen repairs sit at the lower end of the Pixel pricing range. The Pixel 7a introduced a 90Hz panel — a meaningful upgrade from the 6a’s 60Hz display that’s worth preserving with a quality replacement.
📱 Pixel 6a, 7a, 8a
💡 A Practical Note on Pixel Parts Availability
Pixel replacement screens are less universally stocked than iPhone or Samsung parts — the supply chain is narrower and newer models take longer to become widely available. For Pixel 6, 7, and 8 standard and “a” models, we typically have parts on hand. For Pixel 9 series, 8 Pro, and 7 Pro LTPO panels, we strongly recommend WhatsApping your exact model first so we can confirm stock and avoid a wasted trip to our Underwood or Sunnybank Hills stores.
Google Pixel Repairs Available at Our Brisbane Stores
All repairs are done in-store by our own technicians — not sent away. Here’s what we can fix and what’s involved.
Screen Replacement
From $129Cracked glass, the green line defect, dead touch zones, black patches, or a completely dark display — we replace the full OLED assembly matched to your Pixel model. We use quality OLED panels that preserve the colour accuracy, brightness, and refresh rate of your original screen. WhatsApp your model first to confirm we have your screen in stock before you come in.
→ See screen repair detailsBattery Replacement
From $89A failing battery is the most common reason a capable Pixel phone gets retired before its time — especially given how long Google supports these devices with updates. A fresh battery in a Pixel 8 (7-year software support until 2031) is an excellent investment. We diagnose whether your drain is actually battery degradation or a software/Tensor process issue before recommending a replacement.
→ See battery replacement detailsCharging Port Repair
From $89All Pixel models use USB-C charging. Before recommending a port replacement, we clean the port thoroughly — lint compaction is responsible for the majority of Pixel charging problems and a clean costs nothing. If the port genuinely needs replacing, we’ll tell you clearly and give a firm quote before doing anything.
→ See charging port repair detailsCamera Repair
From $99The Pixel camera is arguably the biggest reason people choose these phones — Google’s computational photography is genuinely exceptional. Blurry photos autofocus can’t fix, a cracked camera glass cover, or a camera app that crashes on launch are all hardware faults we can address. We repair both front and rear camera modules and replace cracked protective lens glass.
→ See camera repair detailsWater Damage Repair
Quote after diagnosisPixel 6 and newer carry IP67 or IP68 ratings — but water resistance degrades over time and is fully negated by a cracked screen or previous repair. If your Pixel has been submerged or soaked, power it off immediately, do not try to charge it, and bring it in as soon as possible. The faster we assess it, the better the chance of full recovery.
→ See water damage repair detailsSpeaker & Microphone Repair
From $79Muffled call audio, no sound from speakers, or a microphone people complain about on calls. Pixel speakers tend to collect lint through the grille — a clean often resolves audio issues without any hardware replacement. We always diagnose the cause first and won’t recommend a repair you don’t need.
→ See all repair servicesGoogle’s 7-Year Update Promise Changes the Repair-vs-Replace Calculation
This is the one thing that makes repairing a Google Pixel different from repairing almost any other Android phone. Google has committed to 7 years of Android updates for Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series devices — the longest software support window of any Android manufacturer. That fundamentally changes how you should think about repair.
| Pixel Model | Release Year | Software Support Until | Repair Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL | 2024 | 2031 | Excellent — repair strongly recommended |
| Pixel 8 / 8 Pro / 8a | 2023 | 2030 | Excellent — 6+ years of updates remaining |
| Pixel 7 / 7 Pro / 7a | 2022 | 2027 | Good — 3+ years of updates still available |
| Pixel 6 / 6 Pro / 6a | 2021 | 2026 | Moderate — 1–2 years of support remaining |
| Pixel 5 and older | 2020 or earlier | Ended | Low — no longer receiving security updates |
💡 What This Means in Practical Terms
A $149 screen repair on a Pixel 8 extends the life of a phone that will receive full Android updates, security patches, and Pixel Feature Drops until 2030. That’s a significantly better investment than $149 spent on the same repair for a phone that’s already past its update window. At Mobile Connect Brisbane, we factor this into our honest repair-vs-replace advice — because it’s information that actually helps you make the right call.
Will a Third-Party Repair Void My Google Pixel Warranty?
Google Pixel owners often feel more uncertain about third-party repairs than iPhone or Samsung owners — partly because Pixel’s hardware reputation is newer and partly because Google’s warranty terms can seem restrictive at first read. Here’s what Australian law actually says.
✅ Your Rights Under Australian Consumer Law
Under Australian Consumer Law, Google cannot void your warranty on unrelated faults simply because you used an independent repairer. If your Pixel develops a separate problem while still within its warranty period — say, the speaker fails after you had the screen replaced — Google is legally required to address that separate fault. The warranty cannot be entirely cancelled because of a third-party repair.
⚠️ The Practical Limit
If a third-party repair directly causes a new problem — for example, a connector damaged during screen replacement — Google may decline to cover that specific damage. This is the only legitimate exception. At Mobile Connect, we use quality OEM-grade parts and back every repair with our own warranty. If something goes wrong with our work, we fix it at no cost to you.
💡 One Additional Note for Green Line Defect Owners
If your Pixel has the green line defect and it occurred spontaneously without any drop or user damage, this is a potential consumer law claim against Google — not just a warranty question. Under Australian Consumer Law, a spontaneous major failure entitles you to a remedy regardless of how long you’ve owned the device, in some circumstances. Try Google Support first, reference Australian Consumer Law, and escalate to your state fair trading office if needed before paying for a screen replacement.
Which Google Pixel Models Do We Repair in Brisbane?
We repair the current Pixel range — with a practical note on parts availability for each generation, because honest information saves you a wasted trip.
Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL / 9 Pro Fold
Google’s newest flagship range uses Actua and Super Actua OLED displays, Google Tensor G4, and USB-C charging. The Pro Fold is a foldable — more complex to repair. Parts for the 9 series are still building in the supply chain. WhatsApp your model and damage first — we’ll confirm stock before you make the trip.
Pixel 8 / 8 Pro / 8a
The 7-year update Pixel. The standard Pixel 8 and 8a use standard OLED; the 8 Pro uses an LTPO panel with 1–120Hz. This is the generation where a repair investment makes the most sense — 6+ years of updates remaining. We stock parts for Pixel 8 and 8a and can usually do same-day repairs for screen and battery on these models.
Pixel 7 / 7 Pro / 7a
Popular mid-range flagship powered by Tensor G2. The green line defect is also reported on Pixel 7 series. 7 Pro uses LTPO OLED. The 7a introduced 90Hz for the mid-range. Parts for Pixel 7 and 7a are generally well-stocked. Pixel 7 Pro LTPO panels may need to be ordered — confirm via WhatsApp first.
Pixel 6 / 6 Pro / 6a
The generation that brought the green line defect to attention. Pixel 6 and 6a use standard OLED; Pixel 6 Pro uses LTPO. Software support runs until 2026 — still 1–2 years of updates, which makes a screen or battery repair reasonable for a phone in otherwise good condition. Parts availability is generally good for this generation.
Pixel 5 / 4a / 4 / 3 Series
Software support for Pixel 5 and older has ended — these phones no longer receive Android security updates. Repairs are still possible and we can assess them, but the repair-vs-replace calculus is different for out-of-support devices. We’ll give you an honest recommendation before you commit to a repair cost on an older model.
Don’t Know Your Exact Pixel Model?
Go to Settings → About phone → Model. Or just WhatsApp us a photo — we’ll identify the model immediately and confirm parts availability for your specific generation before you make the trip to our Underwood or Sunnybank Hills stores.
Is It Worth Repairing Your Google Pixel — or Should You Replace It?
For Pixel 7 series and newer, the answer is almost always yes — repair it. Google’s 7-year update commitment on Pixel 8+ makes repair-vs-replace one of the clearest calls in the Android market. Here’s the full picture.
✅ Repair Makes Sense When…
- Your Pixel is a 7 series or newer — significant software support remains
- Pixel 8 or 9 owners especially: up to 7 years of updates justifies most repair costs
- The fault is a single issue — screen, battery, or charging port
- The repair cost is less than 40% of a new Pixel of equivalent spec
- You rely on Pixel-specific features: Call Screen, Magic Eraser, Live Translate
- The phone is otherwise in good physical condition
⚠️ Replacement May Be Better When…
- Your Pixel is a 5 or older — software support has already ended
- Multiple components are failing simultaneously
- The repair cost approaches the phone’s current market value
- There is significant internal damage from a severe drop or water exposure
- The green line defect is covered under warranty — replacement may be better value than out-of-pocket repair
- You want Tensor G4 AI features (Live Updates, Pixel Screenshots) unavailable on older models
💡 The One Unique Pixel Insight Worth Remembering
No other Android phone brand currently matches Google’s 7-year update commitment on Pixel 8 and 9 series. A Pixel 8 repaired today will receive full security patches and feature updates until 2030. In the context of repair value, that’s an unusually strong argument for fixing rather than replacing — and it’s one we’ll always mention when you come into Mobile Connect in Brisbane.
From Walk-In to Fixed — What to Expect at Mobile Connect
Straightforward, transparent, and Pixel-specific. Here’s exactly what happens when you bring your Google Pixel in for repair at our Brisbane stores.
WhatsApp Your Model First — Especially for Pixel Pro and Pixel 9
Unlike iPhone and Samsung parts, Pixel replacement screens aren’t available at every repair shop. For Pixel 8 standard, 8a, 7, 7a, 6, and 6a, we typically have stock. For Pixel 9 series, 8 Pro, and 7 Pro LTPO panels, we recommend confirming availability via WhatsApp before visiting our Underwood Marketplace or Sunnybank Hills Shopping Town stores.
Free Diagnosis — Software vs Hardware, Confirmed
Our technician checks your Pixel thoroughly, including running the built-in hardware diagnostic where available. For Pixel phones specifically, we take extra care to distinguish Tensor-related software symptoms from genuine hardware faults — because the two can look identical. No charge for the assessment regardless of the outcome.
Quick Backup Before We Start
Screen and battery repairs don’t affect your data. But Pixel phones are deeply integrated with your Google Account — a quick Google One backup takes two minutes and means everything is safe before we open the phone. Our team will walk you through it if you’d like.
Confirmed Quote — You Approve Before We Touch Anything
We give you a firm, fixed price before any work begins. Not a range, not an estimate — a confirmed quote. If you decide not to go ahead, you pay nothing. No fix, no fee applies unconditionally.
Repaired, Tested, and Back in Your Hands
Most Pixel screen and battery repairs are completed the same day. Before handing your phone back, we run the Pixel hardware diagnostic to verify display quality, touch response, camera function, and charging. You leave with a Pixel that’s been tested — not just reassembled.
Why Brisbane Pixel Owners Choose Mobile Connect
Google Pixel repair requires more than just generic phone repair skills. Here’s why our Brisbane customers trust us with their Pixel devices.
Official Telstra Partner Since 2017
Nearly a decade as an authorised Telstra partner — serious training, quality parts, and a business that stands behind every repair. We’re not a temporary market stall that disappears if something goes wrong.
Two Convenient South Brisbane Locations
Underwood Marketplace and Sunnybank Hills Shopping Town — both accessible with parking. Two locations mean more parts in stock and less likelihood of a wasted trip.
We Know Pixel-Specific Issues
The green line defect. Tensor thermal behaviour. The difference between a failing battery and a background process draining power. We understand Pixel’s quirks — and we diagnose correctly before recommending repairs.
Quality OLED Panels — Not Budget Substitutes
Pixel displays are designed for specific colour profiles and brightness levels. A low-grade replacement will look noticeably different from the original — washed out and dim. We use quality panels that match the original display performance.
Warranty on Every Repair
Every Pixel repair at Mobile Connect comes with a warranty on both parts and labour. If the same issue returns within the warranty period, we fix it at no extra cost. No exceptions.
Honest About Parts Availability — Upfront
We’ll tell you honestly if we don’t have your screen in stock rather than take your phone and make you wait. For Pixel Pro and Pixel 9 models, we’ll confirm availability before you visit — no wasted trips, no surprises.

Google Pixel Repair Brisbane — Frequently Asked Questions
The Pixel-specific questions we hear most often at our Brisbane stores. If yours isn’t here, WhatsApp us — we reply quickly.
How much does Google Pixel repair cost in Brisbane?
Pixel screen replacement starts from $129 for “a” series models (6a, 7a, 8a), from $149 for standard models (Pixel 6, 7, 8), and from $179 for Pro models with LTPO displays. Pixel 9 series pricing is confirmed after parts availability check. Battery replacement starts from $89 for all models. Charging port repair starts from $89.
At Mobile Connect in Underwood and Sunnybank Hills, diagnosis is free and you get a confirmed quote before any work begins.
What is the green line on my Google Pixel screen?
The green line is a known OLED panel defect affecting Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 7, 7 Pro, and 8 series phones. It appears as a solid vertical green line running top to bottom without any drop, impact, or user damage — the panel fails spontaneously.
If your Pixel is within 2 years of purchase or still under warranty, contact Google Support first and cite Australian Consumer Law — this defect may entitle you to a free repair or replacement. If the warranty has expired and Google has declined to assist, a screen replacement is the fix. We can do this at our Underwood or Sunnybank Hills stores with a free diagnosis first.
Is it worth repairing a Google Pixel 8 or 9?
Yes — for Pixel 8 and 9 series, repair is almost always worth it. Google has committed to 7 years of Android updates for these models, meaning a repaired Pixel 8 will receive full security patches and feature updates until 2030. A screen repair costing $149 extends the life of a phone that will remain fully supported for years — a significantly better investment than the same repair on an Android phone with 2–3 years of remaining support.
Why is my Pixel 6, 7, or 8 overheating?
Overheating on Pixel 6, 7, and 8 series is often caused by Google’s Tensor chipset running intensive background tasks — not a hardware fault. Tensor generates more heat than equivalent Qualcomm chips, especially during camera processing, updates, and heavy multitasking.
Before assuming a hardware problem, check Settings → Battery → Battery usage for a runaway app, install any pending Android updates, and monitor whether the phone is hot only during active use or also on standby. If it’s constantly hot even on standby, a degrading battery or internal fault is possible — and worth a free diagnosis.
Will repairing my Pixel at a third-party shop void my warranty?
Under Australian Consumer Law, no. Google cannot void your warranty on unrelated faults simply because you used an independent repairer. Your consumer rights are protected regardless of what Google’s warranty document states.
The one exception: if a third-party repair directly causes additional damage, Google may decline to cover that specific fault. At Mobile Connect, we use quality OEM-grade parts and back every repair with our own warranty — if something goes wrong with our work, we fix it at no cost to you.
Can a Google Pixel be repaired the same day in Brisbane?
Yes, for popular models. Pixel 6, 7, and 8 standard and “a” series screen and battery repairs are typically same-day at Mobile Connect. Screen repairs take approximately 45 to 90 minutes depending on the model.
For Pixel 9 series, Pro models with LTPO panels, and less common variants, we recommend WhatsApping your exact model first so we can confirm parts availability before you make the trip to our Underwood or Sunnybank Hills stores.
Will I lose my data when my Pixel screen is replaced?
No. A screen replacement is a hardware-only repair — your Google account data, photos, apps, and all stored content are completely unaffected. We’re replacing the physical display, not accessing your storage.
We recommend a quick Google One backup before any repair as a sensible precaution. Our team will walk you through this in a couple of minutes before we start if you’d like help.
Does Google Pixel repair come with a warranty?
Yes. Every Pixel repair at Mobile Connect comes with a warranty covering both the replacement parts and the workmanship. If the same fault returns within the warranty period, we fix it at no extra charge.
The specific warranty period is confirmed when we give you your quote before work begins. It can vary slightly depending on the repair type and the parts fitted for your specific Pixel model.
